How Much Does Endometriosis Surgery Cost in Singapore?

In our previous post, we looked at the cost of endometriosis surgery.

But surgery is only one part of the financial picture.

For many patients, the cost begins long before surgery is ever discussed, with repeated consultations, scans, blood tests, medication, pain management, physiotherapy, pelvic-health care, counselling, fertility-related care and, for some, support from multiple specialists.

And then there are the costs that rarely appear on a medical bill at all.

Transport. Parking. Time away from work. Unpaid leave. Reduced working hours. Childcare or caregiving arrangements. Lost income.

Some care may be subsidised. Some eligible expenses may be paid using MediSave. Some may be covered by insurance.

But limits and eligibility still apply, and many expenses remain partly or entirely out of pocket.

One important distinction we also wanted to highlight is that endometriosis is currently not one of the 23 conditions under Singapore’s Chronic Disease Management Programme, which means routine endometriosis outpatient care does not simply fall under MediSave500 or MediSave700.

At the same time, eligible outpatient diagnostic scans may currently use up to S$600 of MediSave per patient per year, subject to the relevant rules and available balance.

So when we ask how much endometriosis costs, there is no single number.

For one patient, the financial burden may be relatively limited.

For another, it may mean years of accumulated healthcare costs, supportive care, repeated appointments and changes to work and daily life.

Endometriosis is not simply an expensive surgery.

For some patients, it is years of accumulated healthcare and life costs.

That is why affordability and access to long-term endometriosis care matter too.
